Rangers Win: Series Now 3-1

The Rangers Win At Home! Dancing Larry Dances! The Fans Mostly Avoid Screaming "Ho-mo Larry!" All is well at MSG tonight.

It was a raucous night at the Garden. The crowd was loud, adult and often profane. Few Devils fans bothered (or had the nerve) to show up. More than any playoff game since the strike, we spent the majority of time on our feet. And although Marty Brodeur, the Devils goalie, received a significant amount of goading, most of the crowds ire was reserved for the referees, who ignored every gross penalty committed on Sean Avery and most of the ones committed on Jagr. The only thing that saved them in my mind was calling diving on Brodeur, whose acting is as good as any British Soccer Stars.

The Rangers were never behind, but the Devils tied the game early in the third period. It was looking a lot like overtime when Mark Staal hit a vicious slap show at 16:47, making the score 4-3. The Rangers held, and Gomez scored an empty net goal on a face off with 13 seconds left, making the final score 5-3. The Garden was deafeningly loud, and all was well in New York
