Eating Breakfast in Lowell, MA: The Owl Diner

Boy 2 and I drove up to Maine to see Boy 1 Thursday night.  Taking the advice of the AAA, I decided to "take a break for safety's sake" and we decided to spend the night at the somewhat worn Double Tree Inn in Lowell, MA.  After eating our room service burgers and falling asleep watching the Olympics, we were ready to continue on with our journey to the Lake Country of Maine.  But not before eating breakfast.  After our burgers, both the boy and I decided that eating at the hotel would be a mistake, so we set out to find something better.  And with the help of Robin, we did!

The Owl Diner, located at 244 Appleton St, Lowell, MA 01852(978-453-8321) is close to the hotel and also within range of route 495 via the Lowell Connector.  The Owl is a real old fashioned style diner, even featuring table juke boxes (although they don't work).  But although the ambience is great, go for the breakfast.  I had eggs benedict, boy 2 had pancakes.  The pancakes were fluffy, the eggs tasty, and the home fries would make someone on a low carb diet cry.  Particularly good was the canadian bacon, which, rather than looking like a pressed hockey puck was a thick piece of cured pork.  Amazing.  It was so good, we almost stopped on the way home, but, to be honest, traffic was moving so well we just kept moving.  It appears there will be many more trips to Maine in my future, and I am reserving breakfast time at the Owl whenever I can make it!

400 blogs - That is a lot of nitrates and cheeses. The last thing MM would need now would be an entire pork party. Perhaps the topic of blogging's effects on one's health is a topic - perhaps not.Congratulations on 400 - looking forward to the next 400.
